Basketball Recap For February 3, 2012 Washington Wilkes and Elbert County 02/03/2012
The Washington Wilkes Lady Tigers went into Augusta, Ga against Aquinas with one mission, that was to stay undefeated in the region. All they had in there was the Lady Fighting Irish of Aquinas and a home crowd that was in the way. The Lady Tigers had all they could handle against the Lady Fighting Irish with a score of 28-28 at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Tigers, who are an incredible fourth quarter team, stepped up there game and took over in the fourth and ended up winning with a score of 37-34. So the Lady Tigers will continue their undefeated region streak for one more game and move up to 8-0 in the region and 17-5 on the season with a 13 game winning streak.
Leading scorers of the game were Abby Smith with 18 points, Tiare Tatum with 8 points, and Dominique Jenkins with 6 points
Once again, the Palmer Equipment Player of the Game was Abby Smith with 18 points.
The Washington Wilkes Tigers also played the Fighting Irish of Aquinas but with a different ending. The Tigers trailed throughout the game losing 28-7 at the end of the first quarter. Unfortunately it never got any better with the Tigers losing 81-29.

Elbert County
The Elbert County Devils and Lady Devils traveled to Jefferson tonight to take on the Jefferson Dragons. The Lady Devils took the court first tonight playing rougher than usual which let the Lady Dragons pull out to a decent lead early in the first half. Jefferson continued to add to their lead for the rest of the half and claimed the first half as their own. Needless to say, in the second half, the Lady Dragons put more points on the board and kept their solid lead until the final buzzard sounded. The Lady Devils lose tonight in a tough loss by a score of 53-34.
The Elbert County Blue Devils however, took a quick two points early in the first half and battled to keep the game close. With the lead bouncing back and forth between the Devils and the Dragons, fans from both sides stayed on the edge of their seats as they witnessed a great match up between these two teams. As the final minutes shaved off the clock, the Blue Devils pulled out to a small lead which got the Elbert County fans fired up to see a Blue Devil victory. Fortunately, that is exactly what they saw. The Elbert County Blue Devils took home the win tonight in a well earned victory. The final score of this game was 68-60, Elbert County.

The Washington-Wilkes boys and girls basketball teams traveled to Gibson, GA in Glascock County looking to improve both their region records.
The Lady Tigers have had a stellar season. As they entered the Lady Panther's domain they were flying high on an eleven game winning streak. The Lady Tigers were victorious in their previous meeting with the Lady Panthers with a final score of 66-23. Washington-Wilkes were almost uncontested as they stormed the court never allowing Glascock to overtake their lead. The Lady Tigers were up 26-11 at the the half and continued the onslaught throughout the second half. Final Score of this contest: 55-29, Lady Tigers over the Lady Panthers. The Lady Tigers improve to 16-5 overall and 8-0 in region.
The Tigers were caught in a very close contest for the majority of the game. At the end of 1st quarter, Washington-Wilkes led 12-11. By the half, The Panthers had taken the lead: 23-27. The game stayed fairly even throughout the 3rd quarter with The Tigers leading by only 3 in the period's close. By the fourth quarter, Washington-Wilkes came out the gate with a fundamentally sound approach and excellent fluidity with their ball movement. The Tigers left no doubt in their opponent's mind when they stepped off the court with a 17 point victory. The final score (67-50) didn't show how close this game truly was, but in the end they picked up the W. The Tigers arrived in Gibson on a six game losing streak, but finally snapped that as they picked up the victory against Glascock County. Washington-Wilkes improves to 3-20 overall and 2-6 in region.

Elbert County
The Elbert County Devils and Lady Devils traveled to Jackson County tonight to take on the Panthers. The Lady Devils tipped off first tonight as always. The first half proved to be a battle on the scoreboard as the lead went back and forth between the Lady Devils and Lady Panthers. The Lady Devils head to the locker room trailing the Lady Panthers by two with a score of 20-18. Much like the first half, the Lady Devils battled to take the lead and keep it but couldn't keep it long enough to put some space between the Lady Panthers score. Elbert County fell in defeat tonight to Jackson County. The final score of this match up was 43-40.
As for your Blue Devils, Elbert County jumped out in front early in the first half and continued to throw points on the board and kept a solid lead throughout the rest of the half. The Blue Devils finish out the first half with a score of 25-17. The second half was not much different. Elbert County played tough defense and continued to make their shots that gave them a semi-comfortable lead. The Devils come home with another win tonight making this their fourth consecutive win. The final score of this game was 53-41.

Basketball Recap for January 28, 2012 Washington Wilkes 01/28/2012
The Lady Tigers faced off in there third game of the week working toward having an undefeated region record. The Lady Tigers played Georgia Military College Prep School at the Tiger Den in Washington Wilkes. The Lady Tigers started off on shaking ground losing 9-5 at the end of the first quarter and 18-14 at the half. This continued through the third quarter with the Lady Tigers falling behind 34-23. But once of again the determined Lady Tigers did not give up and played fantastic basketball in the forth quarter and came back to win with a score of 47-44. This puts the Lady Tigers 6-0 in the region. Abby Smith was the leading scorer and once again the Palmer Equipment Player of the Games.
The Washington Wilkes boys team also playing in their third game of the week played Georgia Military College Prep School at the Tiger Den in Washington Wilkes. The boys team trying to earn their second region win this season played a hard game. They kept in close throughout the game losing 26-20 at halftime. The Tigers pushed really hard and the GMC Bulldogs had all they could handle with the Tigers, but they fell short in the last minute with the score of 54-49. Leading scorers were Brain Hardigree with 11 who was also the Palmer Equipment Player of the Game, Daquan Heard had 10, and Treyvon Booker had 8 points.

Basketball Recap for January 27, 2012 Washington Wilkes and Elbert County 01/27/2012
The Lady Tigers hosted Taliaferro County trying to improve their undeafted 7-0 record. The Lady Tigers did not disappoint the all the fans that turned out for the game. The led at half time with a score of 26-20. In turn Lady Tiger fashion they pushed the lead to 41-25 at the end of the third quarter. The final score was 53-365, The Lady Tigers moved their region record to 8-0 in the region
The leading scorers in the game were Tiare Tatum with 14, Abby Smith with 12, and Sanquela Gresham with 7 points.
The Palmer Equipment Player of the Game was Abby Smith 12 points and really good defensive play.
The Washington Wilkes Tigers also faced off against Taliaferro. They Tigers gave them a run for it tying the game up at halftime with a score of 31-31. However, the Tigers could not quite hold and lose by a score of 78-66. This takes them to 1-7 in the region. Leading scorers were Brian Hardigree with 16, Chris Jackson with 9, and Christian Keiser with 16.
The Palmer Equipment Player of the Game was Brian Hardigree 16 points.

Elbert County
The Elbert County Blue Devils and Lady Devils took the court at the Inferno tonight taking on East Jackson. The Lady Devils kicked things off with a slow first quarter but kept a solid lead that lasted into the second half. Elbert County ended the first half on a good note with a score of 24-11. The Lady Devils continued to add to their lead throughout the second half and scored with ease and put this game out of reach. The final score of this game was 55-33, Elbert County.
The Elbert County Blue Devils had a very similar game tonight against the East Jackson boys. Elbert County took the lead early in the first half building a solid lead to take them to the second half. The Devils end the first half with a 43-21 lead. Much like the Lady Devils game, the Devils added on to their already large lead. The Elbert County Blue Devils take another win tonight and add to their 3 game winning streak. The final score of this game was 76-47.

Elbert County Wrestling Tournament Wrestling Tournament 12/31/1969
There will be a wrestling tournament on Saturday January 28, 2012 starting at 9:00 am hosted by Elbert County. There will be nine teams coming to compete in this event.
There will also be an area wrestling tournament on Friday, February 2 starting at 5:30 and Saturday, February 3 starting at 9:00. Finals of the tournament will start around 2:00 on Saturday. Elbert County High School Wrestlers are ranked #4 in the state.

Washington Wilkes Basketball for January 24, 2012 01/24/2012
The Washington Wilkes Lady Tigers headed up to Lakeside Evans to try and redeem themselves after losing to the Lady Panthers back on December 10. The Lady Tiger with a 7-0 region record and 12-5 overall record were also trying to keep up their undefeated record since December 17.
This was a test for the Lady Tigers as they faced a Lady Panthers team that is a AAAA team, while the Lady Tigers are an A team. However, they were up for the challenge. The Lady Tigers started out the games winning 13-5, only to fall behind at half time 31-22. But being the tough team they are they fought back to take lead by two at the end of the third quarter with the score of 38-36. The Lady Tigers continued stellar fourth quarter play pushing the lead out to ten one point. The Lady Tigers continued their great play with a score of 54-47. Leading the scoring was stand out player Abby Smith with 22 points, Sanquela Gresham 12 points, Alexus Cullars 9 points, and Tiare Tatum 9 points.
The Palmer Equipment Player of the Game was Abby Smith with 22 points.
Washington Wilkes Boys also played Lakeside Evans. After a hard fought game, they came out on the losing end with a score of 72-52.
The Palmer Equipment Player of the Game was Brandn Dill off the bench with 24 points.
The both teams play again on Friday night at home against Taliaferro County with the Lady Tiger playing at 6:00. The boys game will follow afterwards around 7:30

Basketball Recap for January 21, 2012 Elbert County 01/21/2012
Elbert County
Elbert County traveled to the Franklin County Lions Den tonight to take on the Lions. The Lady Devils kicked things off first, playing the first half well. Elbert County headed to the locker rooms at halftime leading the Lady Lions, 31-17. In the second half, the Lady Devils added to their score and continued to play solid defense giving them a huge lead to work with. Elbert County brought home another victory for Blue Devil Nation tonight by an impressive 21 points. The final score of this game was, 50-29.
The Elbert County Blue Devils also played an impressive game tonight against the Franklin County Lions. Unlike the Lady Devils however, The Blue Devils played a tight game the whole game. The scoreboard showed no favoritism as the Blue Devils and the Franklin County Lions went back and forth with the lead. The fourth quarter proved to be the decision maker in this match up. As the last minute of the game began to tick away, the Devils take the lead with a 3 point advantage and fight to hold that lead the rest of the game. The Elbert County Blue Devils run away with the win by a short margin tonight against the Franklin County Lions. The final score of this game was 44-41.

Washington Wilkes:
The Washington Wilkes Lady Tigers faced off the Lady Devils of Warren County at Warren County. The Lady Tigers went in undefeated in the region and fighting to stay that way.
The Lady Tigers took control of the game early winning 38-18 at the end of the first half. The Lady Tigers still had a fight on their hand as the Lady Devils fought to close in the lead on the the Lady Tigers and they did with the score at the end of the third quarter being 48-35. The Lady Tigers who have been an extremely dominant team in the fourth quarter had to fight off a determined Lady Devils team, but managed to hang on with a score of 65-58. Leading scores were T'Alexus Culllars with 21, Tiare Tatum with 15, Abby Smith with 13, and Sanquela Gresham with 10.
The Palmer Equipment Player of the Game was freshman T'Alexus Cullars off the bench with 21 points.
This pushed the the Lady Tigers to a record of 7-0 in the region and 12-5 on the season.
The Washington Wilkes Tigers tried to get back on track and get their second region win as they faced the Devils of Warren County at Warren County. The Tigers fell behind early in this game losing 17-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers never quite got into their groove as they fell behind 42-28 going into the fourth quarter. The leading scorers tonight were Chris Jackson with 12 points, Brian Hardigree with 10 points, Vincent Wilkerson with 9 points. The Tigers ended up losing 46-32 making them 1-6 in the region this year.

Elbert County
Elbert County traveled to Oglethorpe County tonight to face off against the Oglethorpe Patriots in hopes to bring home an easy win for Blue Devil Nation. As always, the Lady Devils hit the court first. In the first half, the Lady Devils went back and forth with the Lady Patriots on the scoreboard throughout the half until the buzzard rang. Elbert County headed to the locker room leading Oglethorpe 36-23. In the second half, the Lady Devils went on a run that lasted the rest the game giving them the victory tonight. The final score of this game was 63-31.
The Elbert County Blue Devils also laced up tonight against the Oglethorpe Patriots to hopefully add another game to their win column. In first half, Elbert County, in Blue Devil fashion, put the first two points on the board and gained momentum that gave them the advantage to take control of the game early. The Blue Devils continued to add on to their lead heading into the second half, and made it close to impossible for a Patriot come back. Elbert County brought home another win tonight and prepare for the next stop for the 2011-2012 season. The final score of this game was 78-36.

The Lady Tigers of Washington Wilkes tried to defend their 5-0 region record against the Lady Fighting Irish of Aquinas County. The Lady Tiger started off the game at the end of the first quarter losing 12-14 to the Fighting Irish. The Lady Tigers fought back to take the lead at half time with the score of 28-26. In a game that was back and forth the entire game the Lady Tigers lost the lead at the end of the third 38-40. However, be the fighters they are they fought back to tie the game back up and take then take the lead 45-40 with less then 5 minutes left. In Lady Tiger fashion they come out and dominate the final quarter and win with the final score was 62-47 and moving to 6-0 in the region. Abby Smith was there leading scorer with 19 points, followed by Sanquela Gresham with 13 points.

Elbert County
The Elbert County Lady Devils faced the Rabun County Lady Wild Cats in the famous Inferno tonight. The Lady Devils played the first half very well against the highly ranked Rabun County team with the score going back and forth throughout the half. Elbert County ends the first half in a tight 27-27 score between both teams. In the second half, the Lady Devils continue to show their impressive motivation to win. This motivation gives Elbert County the victory tonight with a last second shot by Bri Moon. The final score of this game was 54-53.
The Elbert County Blue Devils also took on the Rabun County Wild Cats tonight. The Devils jump on the board early in the first seconds of the game with a quick two points. Elbert County continued to put points on the board throughout the first half only trailing the Wild Cats by a few points. In the second half, the Blue Devils continued to fight keeping the score close. Unfortunately, the Wild Cats pulled away with the lead in the last seconds of the game and beat the Blue Devils by a small two points. The final score of this game was 67-65.

The Washington Wilkes Lady Tigers tried to fend off the Lady Red Devils of Lincoln County, at Lincoln County, as they tried to secure their fifth region in a row, and improve on their 9-5 record. The Lady Red Devils would not go down without a fight as they pushed the score to 49-44 with less than two minutes left. However, the Lady Tigers fought hard and held on to the lead and won with a score of 59-50. Now improving their record to 10-5 and 5-0 in the region.

The Washington Wilkes Tigers also faced off against one of their biggest rivals, the Lincoln County Red Devils, trying to win their second region game in two days. The Tigers were playing a close game at at the end of the first quarter with a score of 12-7 with the Tigers leading. Tonights Tigers basketball game had to be interrupted because of the Martin Luther King Jr. Banquet. However, at the end of the third quarter, the Tigers had lost the lead to the Red Devils 39-24. The Washington Wilkes Tigers played a hard fought game, but in the end they lost 54-50 to one of their biggest rivals. This moves there region record to 1-5 and 2-15.

Elbert County
The Elbert County Lady Devils took on the Hart County Lady Bulldogs tonight in the famous Inferno. In the first half, the Lady Devils break out of their first quarter slump by scoring 10 points to the Lady Bulldogs 8 points. The tempo changed in the second quarter as the Lady Bulldogs took the lead by 8. The score at the end of the half was 22-30, Lady Bulldogs. In the second half the Lady Bulldogs add on to their 8 point lead ending the third quarter with a score of 39 to the Lady Devils 28. Elbert County fell in defeat tonight to their rivals, the Lady Bulldogs. The final score of this game: 38-48, Hart County.
The Elbert County Blue Devils also took on Hart County tonight. The Blue Devils took control early in the first half. Elbert County maintain this lead throughout the rest of the half and head to the locker rooms leading the Bulldogs, 42-20. Late in the third quarter, the Bulldogs began to catch up to the Devils bringing their score to only a 10 point deficit. Fortunately for Blue Devil nation, Elbert County holds their lead until the final seconds of the game and come away with the win tonight. The final score of this game 66-50, Elbert County.

The Washington Wilkes Lady Tigers faced off against the Lady Panthers of Glasscock County at Glasscock County. The Lady Tigers with an overall record of 8-5 and a region record of 3-0 were looking for their fourth region win in a row. It was all Lady Tiger tonight as they went into halftime with a score of 38-18. They continue the lead with a score of 53-21 going into the fourth quarter. Washington Wilkes Lady Tigers won with a final score of 66-23 with their fourth region win. Abby Smith led the way with scoring with 14 points. The Lady Tigers are noe 9-5 and 4-0 in the region.

The Washington Wilkes Tigers also faced off against the Panthers of Glasscock County at Glasscock County. The Tigers with an overall record of 1-13 and a region record of 0-3 were looking for their first region win this year. Washington Wilkes Tigers started off the first half of the game with a score of 38-12. They continued the domination of the game with a score of 75-31 and win their first region game. The Tigers moved to and 1-3 in the region. Brian Hardiagree led the way with scoring with 17 points.

The Tigers will play tomorrow night against Lincoln County at Lincoln County; game time will be around 5:30pm right after the Lady Tigers game.

Elbert County
The Elbert County Lady Devils loaded the bus traveling to take on North Oconee tonght. The Lady Devils had a slow first half only scoring 8 points heading into the locker rooms trailing North Oconee 17 to 8. In the second half, the Lady Devils finally began putting points on the board. Unfortunately, North Oconee kept adding to their score also until the final buzzard sounded. The Lady Devils fell in defeat tonight by a score of: 41-32, North Oconee.
For your Elbert County Blue Devils, they jump out to a 4 point lead in the first minute of the first quarter. The Devils continue this pace heading into halftime with 30 points. North Oconee ends the half trailing Elbert County with 26 points. Elbert County went into the second half with the same pace they had in the first and continued to add on to their lead throughout the rest of the game. The Devils come home with another victory. Elbert County wins this game with a score of 73-43.

Basketball Games Recap for January 10, 2012 Elbert County and Washington Wilkes 01/10/2012
Washington Wilkes:
The Lady Tigers of Washington Wilkes faced off against Taliaferro County looking for their third consecutive region win. The Lady Tigers dominated through out the game, winning 35-30 at the end of the third quarter. However, they pushed that lead even higher winning 58-39 against Taliaferro County .
Abby Smith was the Palmer Equipment Player of the Game with 18 points.
The Tigers of Washington Wilkes also faced off against Taliaferro County looking for their first region win on the season after starting off 0-2 in the region. The Tigers started off the first half with a dominating performance leading 33-25. However, they couold not close the game out losing with the score of 72-58.

Elbert County
The Elbert County Lady Devils took on the Jefferson Lady Dragons tonight. The Lady Devils keep the pace slow and steady heading into the first half with only scoring 14 points the whole half. The Lady Dragons come in close behind Elbert County, with 12 points the first half. In the second half of play, the game heated up with the lead going back and forth between both teams. After an energetic fourth quarter, the Lady Devils come away with the win tonight with a final score of 34-32.
Your Elbert County Blue Devils also took the court tonight against the Jefferson Dragons. The Devils, much like the Lady Devils, took their time putting points on the scoreboard. Scoring only 28 points in the first half the Devils trailed Jefferson by 8 points at halftime. In the second half, the Devils looked as though they found some fire in the fourth quarter. Elbert County took off on a run, almost catching up with the Dragons. Unfortunately, the Devils come up short losing by only 4 points. The final score of this game: 61-57, Jefferson.
