Well now that spring is right around the corner that can only mean one thing, It is time for some baseball!

First the focus is on the Tigers of Washington-Wilkes. The Tigers were in action on Monday against the Morgan County Bulldogs. The Tigers were defeated 14-2, but the Tigers got some redemption this past Tuesday defeating Twiggs County by an impressive score of 17-0. The Tiger’s next game is this Friday at home against Aquinas.

Now we turn our attention to the Diamond Devils of Elbert County.

A mixed bag so far for the Blue Devils this week. The Blue Devils defeated Westside of South Carolina by a score of 8-1 on Monday, but on Tuesday the Devils could not carry the momentum to Thomson as the Devils were defeated 6-4 despite a homerun by Trenton Allen. This Thursday the Diamond Devils will be hitting the road to take on Pendleton, South Carolina at 6:00pm.

The Elbert County Blue Devils State Playoff Run Comes to an End.

3/08/2010

This past Saturday the Elbert County Blue Devils made the long trek up to Dalton, GA for their Elite 8 game against the Columbia Eagles.

Elbert County started out firing on all cylinders holding the lead over Columbia for the first half of the first quarter. Then Columbia woke up and started playing basketball and jumped out in front of the Blue Devils in the second half of the first quarter, but once Columbia took the lead they never trailed for the rest of the game, and wound up defeating the Blue Devils 68-54. Leading scorers for the game were Jershaun Cobb of Columbia with 23 points, and Rod Rucker of Elbert County with 17 points of his own.

With this loss the Blue Devils end the year with a 27-3 overall record.

In other playoff news Westover defeated defending state champion South Atlanta in Overtime. North Hall defeated Riverwood, and LaGrange defeated Dougherty. So the final four for AAA looks like this. North Hall will take on LaGrange, and Westover will play Columbia in the final four in Macon, GA.

3/01/2010

This past Friday the Blue Devils played host to the North Atlanta Warriors in the first round of the state playoffs. Elbert County got off to a slow start in the first half, but finally got it going in the second half thanks to some great defense, and some quick and easy baskets. The Blue Devils defeated North Atlanta by a score of 66-42. Elbert County’s own Rod Rucker led both teams in scoring with 27 points. The Blue Devils will play host to West Hall on Tuesday in the Inferno. Now for a look at how the other teams in Elbert County’s bracket performed this past Friday. Columbia defeated the Eagles of Eastside by a score of 56 to 36. East Hall defeated Ringgold 63-37. That means that Columbia and East Hall will be in action this Tuesday as well and the winner of that game will play the winner of the Elbert/West Hall game in Dalton, Georgia in the Elite 8 on either Friday or Saturday.

Now we take a look at the Lady Tigers of Washington-Wilkes.

The Lady Tigers played host to Clinch County this past Saturday. In what was a hard fought game the Lady Tigers hit a three pointer in the final seconds to defeat Clinch County by a score of 41-39. The Lady Tigers will hit the road to take on Emanuel County Institute this Wednesday. Be sure to tune into 105.3 WSGC for all the action with play-by-play from Andrew Jackson.

Now for a look at how things have gone in the Lady Tigers bracket. Taylor County defeated Bryan County by a score of 62-44. Seminole County defeated Wilkinson County 57-30. That pits Taylor County taking on Seminole County this Wednesday as well. Elbert Finally Gets to Have Senior Night!

2/16/2010

Well Elbert County finally got to have their senior night, and trust me they did not disappoint.

Due to all the delays and push backs there were no JV games last night. So the Varsity Girls took the court first!

After getting demolished in Stephens County earlier this year the Lady Devils got some payback! They defeated the Lady Indians in thrilling fashion winning a close one 48-45. The Lady Devils will head up to Franklin County to take on Morgan County this Thursday at 6:00pm.

The Varsity Boys took the court next. After dominating Stephens County earlier this year the Blue Devils picked up where they left off. The Blue Devils cruised past the Indians by a score of 79-47. The Blue Devils will play the loser of the Mountain View/Stephens County game on Thursday at the Inferno at 7:00pm.
