Mrs. Sarah Wilson Carnes, 90, of 1906 Mt. Olivet Rd, of Hartwell, died Thursday, February 2, 2012 at her home.
Born on July 7, 1921 in Lavonia, GA, she was the daughter of the late John T. Wilson and Mollie Bailey Wilson. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church.
Survivors include her three daughters: Christine Reynolds and her husband Harold of Elberton, Kathy Corbett and her husband Charles of Hartwell, and Margaret Carey and her husband Jimmy of Hartwell; one sister-in-law, Doris L. Wilson of Lavonia; six grandchildren: Jeremy Corbett and his wife Lori, Justin Corbett and his wife Kerri, Hal Reynolds and his wife Dee, and Jim Carey and his wife Kimberly; Chelsea Reed and her husband Brian, Marcy Thigpen and her husband Andy; thirteen great-grandchildren: Katelyn Corbett, Jackson Corbett, Garrison Corbett, Abby Corbett, Ellie Corbett, Morgan Reed, Lauren Reed, Boston Carey, Beckett Carey, Gentry Hammock, Kayda Hammock, Lyza Thigpen, and John Reynolds also survive. Mrs. Carnes was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William Gartrell Carnes; a daughter, Thelma Carnes; a grandson, Jason Reynolds; a great-grandson, Will Corbett; one sister: Mary Vickery and three brothers: Walton Wilson, Bud Wilson and Carey Wilson.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Jim Carey and Rev. Ashley Corbett officiating. Entombment will follow in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell where the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday. The family is at the home.

Rosemary Boyd Webb, affectionally known as Rose, 71, of Elberton, wife of the late James Frank Webb, Jr., passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at Elbert Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Webb was born in Atlanta, Georgia, August 24, 1940, to the late Olin Marcus and Lorraine Williamson Boyd. She was a former owner/operator of Richard's Restaurant, retired from Libby's Flowers, Gifts, & More and a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
Left to cherish her memories are her children and their spouses, Leigh and Mark Nash of Elberton and Scott and Robin Webb of Bowman; two brothers, Doug Boyd and Bill Boyd, both of Macon, Georgia; thirteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services celebrating her life will held at 1PM Friday, February 3, in the Liberty Baptist Church, Hartwell, with the Rev. Mike Griffin, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery.
The Webb family is at the home of Mark and Leigh Nash, 1844 Huntcliff Way, Elberton, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8PM Thursday evening.

Blondean Lovin McAllister, 84, of 175 Tusten Street, Elberton, wife of the late Ralph Eugene McAllister, passed away Monday, January 30, 2012, at her residence.
Born in Lawrenceville, Georgia November 12, 1927 to the late Henry Lovin and Margaret Hall Lovin. Mrs. McAllister was a member of Elberton First Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Left to cherish her memories are her son and daughter-in-law Bobby and Peggy McAllister of Elberton, Georgia; sisters Evelyn Thornton and Shirley Williams both of Elberton, Georgia; brother Henry Lovin of Conyers, Georgia; granddaughter and grandson-in-law Katie and Philip Thompson of Elberton, Georgia, and a great granddaughter Rachel Thompson.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers Clyde Lovin and Blanton Lovin.
Graveside services celebrating her life will be held Thursday, February 2, at 2PM at Elmhurst Cemetery with Rev. Bruce Lovin and Rev. Gary Purvis officiating. The McAllister family will be at the home of Bobby and Peggy McAllister, 536 Rhodes Drive, Elberton and will receive friends from 1-2PM just prior to the service graveside at Elmhurst Cemetery.

Mattie Alelia Howard Davis, 91, of 1050 Petersburg Road, Elberton, widow of the late Deal Thomas Davis, passed away Saturday evening, January 28, 2012, at Athens Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Davis was born in Elbert County, June 15, 1920, to the late William David Howard, Sr. and Lucy Pierce Howard Vaughn. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church.
Left to cherish her memories are her children and their spouses, Doyle Robert, Sr. and Iris Bobo Davis of Elberton and Amelia and Henry Horne of Calhoun Falls, SC; three grandchildren, Bobby and Crystal Davis, Dawn and Bryan Collins, and Candice Leigh Horne; three great-grandchildren, Isaac T. Davis, Gavin E. Davis, and Brooke B. Collins; and several nieces and nephews.
The last surviving member of her immediate family, she is preceded in death by two infant sons, Melvin Thomas Davis and Willie Howard Davis; and two brothers, Amos Howard, Willie D. Howard.
Memorial services celebrating her life will be held at 3PM Thursday, February 2, in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with family and friends officiating. It was Mattie's request to be cremated and inurnment will be at a later date.
The Davis family is at the home of Doyle and Iris Davis, 2093 Athens Highway, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-3PM Thursday, just prior to the service.

Rebecca Jordan Strayer, 60, of 1043 Longstreet Road, Elberton, Georgia, widow of the late Robert Strayer passed away Sunday January 29, 2012 at Elbert Memorial Hospital.
Born in Staunton, Virginia August 11, 1951 to the late Betty Jordan. She was a retired waitress in the restaurant industry.
Left to cherish her memories are her children Serena Strayer of Mauldin, South Carolina, Nick Strayer and Billie Taylor of Piedmont, South Carolina, and Nathan Strayer, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Strayer's wishes was to be cremated and memorial services will be held at a later date.

Anthony Wayne Wright, 53, of 1633 Athens Highway, Elberton, Georgia passed away Saturday January 28, 2012 suddenly from a automobile accident.
Born in Washington, D.C. March 15, 1958 to Kathryn "Kay" Anna Jones Wright and the late Alfred L. LaPanne. He graduated from Elbert County Comprehensive High School then he joined the U.S. Air Force after serving his country he went to college and earned an Associate Degree. He then went to work at Southern Analytical Labs in Tampa, Florida for 20 years as a Environmental Chemist where he retired. Following his retirement he moved back to Elberton and was employed at Athens Orthopedic in Customer Service in Athens, Georgia.
Left to cherish his memories are his son Paul Wayne Wright, his mother Kathryn "Kay" Anna Jones Wright of Elberton, Georgia, sister and brother in law Jackie W. and Bill Burson of Hull, Georgia, and a aunt Paulette Richolson of Fairfax, Virginia.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his grandparents John Paul Jones and Pauline Veal Jones, uncle Stanley W. Jones, and a nephew Matthew Worley-Minshew.
Memorial services to celebrate his life will be held Thursday February 2, at 11AM in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Morris Sapp officiating. Inurnment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery. The Wright family is at the home 1633 Athens Highway and will receive friends from 10:30-11AM just prior to the service at Berry Funeral Home.

Mr. J. D. Waters, 83, of Elberton, GA, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2012 at his home.
Mr. Waters was born in Calhoun Falls, SC, to the late Samuel Preston and Sallie Ruth Sutherland Waters. He celebrated 56 years of marriage with his wife, Audrey Janelle Smith Waters. His life’s work was as an industrial mechanic.
Mr. Waters was a US. Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War. He retired after 22 years of service with the 214th Field Artillery Unit of the Georgia National Guard. Mr. Waters also served in the Elbert County Rescue Unit for 24 years, and served as the EMA Director and as a Sheriff’s Deputy for 2 years. Mr. Waters was a member of the Calhoun Falls Masonic Lodge #283. He was a longtime member of Bethel E Baptist Church, having served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Waters is survived by his children: Suzanne Denise Burden, David Michael Waters, and Stephen Mitchell Waters, all of Elberton; 8 grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren; and a brother, William Franklin Waters of Carlton, GA.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Waters was preceded in death by a son, Brian Keith Waters; a grandson, Luke Mitchell Waters; and 2 brothers, Samuel Preston Waters and Rev. DeWitt Waters.
A service celebrating Mr. Waters’ life will be held Sunday, January 29, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel E Baptist Church. Rev. Rand Freer and Rev. Scott Mize will be officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, January 28, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hicks Funeral Home. Interment will be at Bethel E Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Peggy Sue Dobson Truitt, 76, of 315 Rolling Hills Drive, Royston, GA died Thursday, January 26, 2012, at the Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston, GA.
Mrs. Truitt was born in Elbert County, GA, July 04, 1935, daughter of the late James Pinkley Dobson and the late Dovie Sue Childs Dobson. She was a retired secretary having worked with A&A Manufacturing and was a Para-Pro having worked with Royston Elementary School. Mrs. Truitt was a member of the Royston Church of God.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Truitt of Royston, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Sisi Truitt of Royston, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Johnnie Lynne and Patrick Carter of Bowling Green, KY, Billie Jean and Murray Hollingsworth of Royston, GA; five grandchildren, Jennifer Cooper, Kevin Carter, Steven Hollingsworth, Jessica Carter and Glenn Hollingsworth; three great grandchildren, Mercedes Carter, Lexi Carter and Carter Cooper; brothers, Glenn Dobson of Marietta, GA, Johnny Dobson of Landrum, SC, J.P. Dobson of Tignall, GA; sisters, Agnes Mitchell of Simpsonville, SC, and Ethel Webb of Jupiter, FL.
Preceded in death by sisters, Corine Lovinggood and Gertrude Smith.
Funeral services for Mrs. Truitt will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2012, at the Royston Church of God with Rev. Eddie Wiggins and Rev. James Gunn officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Royston GA.

Mr. Cleveland Smith, Jr., 65, of 3273 Airline-Goldmine Road, Canon, GA died Sunday, January 22, 2012 at the Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston, GA.
Mr. Smith was born in Franklin County, GA, September 17, 1946, son of the late Robert Cleveland Smith, Sr. and the late Madge Marie Vickery Smith. He was a retired Engineer having worked with Transco Pipe Line and was a member of the Hartwell First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include wife, Carolyn Johnson Smith of Canon, GA; son, Roger Smith of Morrow, GA; daughter, Tracy Hendrix of Canon, GA; brother, Dorsey Smith of Tacoma, WA; sisters, Laverne Smith of Royston, GA, Dot Davis of Lavonia, GA, Charlotte Smith of Columbus, GA and Cherry Howard of Greenville, SC. Four grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survives.
Preceded in death by one brother, Herman Smith.
Funeral Services for Mr. Smith will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stephen Nelms officiating.

James "Jimmy" David Willis, 66, of 619 Evans Street, Whitmire, South Carolina passed away Friday January 20, 2012 at Hospice Care of the Piedmont in Greenwood, South Carolina.
Born in Newberry, South Carolina May 16, 1945 to the late Coy Tommy Willis and Jessie Miller Willis. He was a retired fixer from the textile industry.
Left to cherish his memories include a sister Betty W. Driggers of Calhoun Falls, South Carolina, and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Graveside funeral services celebrating his life will be held Monday January 23, at 3PM at Whitmire Cemetery in Whitmire, South Carolina with Rev. Wayne Tyler and Rev. Billy Yon officiating. The Willis family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45PM just prior to the service at Whitmire Church of God in Whitmire, South Carolina.
Nephews of Mr. Willis will serve as pallbearers.
