105.3 WSGC-FM: We Serve Granite Country
105.3 WSGC is the community radio voice for Elbert and
Wilkes counties in an area of northeastern Georgia which we call
"Granite Country." There are very few areas where the local radio
station dominates radio listenership, and 105.3 WSGC is fortunate to be
among this unique group of radio stations. 105.3 WSGC provides a
full-service format that focuses on local news, sports, weather,
community events and local involvement. It's a unique relationship that
dates back to 1947 when sister station WSGC (AM) began broadcasting in
Elberton. Broadcasting 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from the tallest
broadcast tower in the Georgia-Carolina region, 105.3 WSGC provides
primary signal coverage to Elbert, Wilkes, Oglethorpe, Madison and
Lincoln counties in Georgia; and Abbeville and McCormick counties in
South Carolina. Included in this area are the world's largest deposits
of granite used for construction and monument manufacturing, and the
heavily visited Lake Russell and Lake Thurmond recreation areas.
Programming
The 105.3 WSGC format consists of heavy local news and
information focused on the residents of Elbert and Wilkes counties. The
emphasis is always LOCAL.
ABC News is heard at the top of every hour. Local News is heard throughout the broadcast day, with expanded newscasts at 6:30,
7:30 and 8:30 a.m.; 12:40 and 5:05 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Local Obituaries are broadcasts at 7:55 a.m., 12:30 and
5:30 p.m.
Sports is heard at 6:45, 7:20 and 8:05 a.m.; 12:50 and
5:15 p.m. M-F. Saturdays 7:20 a.m. and 12:50 p.m.
The Mike Huckabee Report is heard at 8:30 a.m., 12:06 and 5:30
p.m. Monday-Saturday.
105.3 WSGC broadcasts community information hourly on
its Community Calendar feature. Local birthdays are broadcast as 6:20
a.m. and 7:45 a.m.
105.3 WSGC's popular classified ads program, Swap & Shop,
featuring local callers, airs from 8:40-9a.m. M-F.
105.3 WSGC local weather forecasts are heard not less
than twice hourly. When severe weather happens, local residents know to
turn to 105.3 WSGC for emergency information. For the latest weather
information, the station maintains direct electronic connections to the
National Weather Service offices in Atlanta and Greenville-Spartanburg,
SC.
WSGC broadcasts the full schedule of Elbert County High
School sports at WSGCRadio.com and 1400 AM/96.5 FM. We broadcast the
full schedule of Wilkes County High School sports, Georgia
Southern football and basketball, and Atlanta Braves baseball at 105.3 FM and
WSGCRadio.com.
The 105.3 WSGC target audience is 25 years plus, but
105.3 WSGC is the community radio station and its programming appeals to
everyone.
Music
As a mass-appeal community voice, 105.3 WSGC features
modern Country music blended with hit songs of the past twenty years.
Arbitron has surveyed Elbert County radio audiences since 1977, and
Country music has by far been the most popular choice of this area's
radio listeners. 105.3 WSGC's Country
music format, coupled with all its local community features, makes it a
big hit with listeners and advertisers.
Coverage
105.3 WSGC broadcasts as a Class A FM radio station with
6000 watts from the top of the tallest tower in this region, located near
the Elbert-Wilkes County line off Highway 17. This strategic location
provides primary coverage to Wilkes, Elbert, Madison, Oglethorpe and
Lincoln counties in Georgia; Abbeville and McCormick counties in
