Meet the Staff!

 Sean Gibson, Vice President & General Manager/Sports Director

Gibson’s radio career began in Atlanta in 1987 at WRAS FM. Gibson joined the volunteer staff as a news announcer and disc jockey. While at Georgia State University Gibson was awarded an internship with the State of Georgia in 1989 providing state reports on House of Representative activities during the General Assembly working alongside former GNN Sports Director Pete Davis. After receiving his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in 1992 from Georgia State, Gibson returned to radio in 1995 as a news announcer at WAEC AM 860 Atlanta alongside now WSB Affiliate Representative Alan Hunt. Gibson later joined the News Staff at WDUN AM 550 in Gainesville  in 1995 working under longtime “news guru” Ken Stanford where his staff won numerous state awards from the GAB for news coverage in Northeast Georgia in 1996 and 1997. In 1997 Gibson  joined Georgia Carolina Radiocasting under Art Sutton as he and his wife moved to Union, South Carolina where he served as operations manager for three years at 1460 AM WBCU. In 2000 Gibson was named General Manager of Sutton’s WGVC 106.1FM property in Newberry, South Carolina.  Following the acquisition of additional markets in 2001 by Sutton’s group, Sean became Station Manager of then WEHR (now WLVX) before being named General Manager of the Elberton Market (WSGC AM/FM and WLVX) in 2002 where he has served since. Since 1960 Gibson is the fourth individual to serve in that position in Elberton’s radio history. Gibson is a member of the Rotary Club of Elberton, Salvation Army Board of Directors, and board member of the Elbert County Chamber of Commerce. Gibson received a Mainstreet Elberton Award in 2003 helping to promote visitors to the downtown area of Elberton with a concert series that featured r&b vocalist Percy Sledge. Under Gibson's leadership 92.1 WSGC was awarded a state award for its community work with the local extension service in 2005 as well a Elbert County Chamber of Commerce Award of Appreciation in 2007 and WLVX also received an award in 2005 for its work in the community from the Elbert County Branch of the NAACP. Gibson is also play by play man for Elbert County Football and Washington Wilkes Boys Basketball. Gibson has been married to his wife Tori since 1993 and the couple have two daughters Sidney and Claire, both heavily involved in Gems Club and gymnastics and sports. gibson@gacaradio.com  

 

 

 

 

 

Ron Shuler, Traffic and Operations Manager
 Host of “Elbert County’s Morning Show”

Born in Orangeburg, SC on April 27, 1948, Ron is a 1966 graduate of Orangeburg High School and Career Academy of Broadcasters.  He began his radio career in Orangeburg, SC March of 1967 at WORG-AM.  There he hosted the morning show and later was promoted to Music Director.  Ron moved to Elberton, Ga in January 2004 as Operations Manager and began his morning show on WSGC-FM in December 2004.  He is a member of the White House United Methodist Church in Orangeburg, SC.    Ron loves to bowl and play softball.   He is an avid Clemson Fan! David Lovinggood,  Account Executive WSGC AM/FM "Love" joined the Elberton Radio Team in 2007 after almost 25 years in combined concrete and granite sales. David is a graduate of Elbert County Comprehensive High School and served in the National Guard for six years. He is also a former member of the True Blue Board. Jonathan Brewer,  News Director WSGC AM/FM Jon joined the Elberton Radio Team this year, bringing you the latest in local news each weekday. Jon also handles some sports play by play for the stations. Jon is a 2001 graduate and former baseball player with Elbert County High School and currently attending Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs. Opal Coleman, Administrative Assistant, Elberton Radio- Opal Joined the Elberton radio team in 2004, assisting Ron in the front office and is the first person people talk to when they call the business office each day.

   John Hubbard Host "Gospel Hymn Book" WSGC/Part-time Supervisor. John is the longest active staff member of Elberton Radiocasting and joined the team back in 1974 under the station ownership of Lewis Shurbutt. John's show originally started on WSGC a little more than a year after the FM signal was put on the air. John's show was moved to then WEHR (now WLVX) in 2002 as a move to potentially gain a regional audience...and boy has it done that!!!  Thanks to "The Hymn Book" -the listenership has increased greatly in neighboring South Carolina as well as Elbert and Wilkes Counties. John is a former longtime police officer and employee of the city of Elberton for more than 38 years. John retired in 2004 from the city and enjoys fishing, cooking and his garden and radio somewhere in there. John was also recently elected to the Elbert County Board of Commissioners in 2006.  jhubbard@gacaradio.com

Matt Johnson, WSGC News Reporter.....Matt joined the Elberton Radio Team in July of 2007 and helps Jon bring you the latest news from around the area. Matt is a 2006 graduate of Calhoun Falls High School and is a former beat reporter for the Greenwood Index-Journal.

David Stephens, Weekend board operator engineer WSGC

 Quentin Thornton, Weeknight/weekend announcer WSGC. Quentin joined the staff in 2004 as handles the weeknight and weekend duties on Love 105.1 Quentin is also the studio engineer for local sports broadcasts like football, basketball and baseball.
